Things to Consider When Planning Baby Shower Games for a Virtual Party
When planning which virtual baby shower games are right for your party, there are few things you should consider:
1. Number of Guests
Just like with an in-person baby shower, the number of guests you invite will play a big role in which virtual games work best. Some games are great for larger groups, while others are better with a smaller, more intimate crowd.
Make sure to collect RSVPs ahead of time so you can plan accordingly. Knowing how many people are joining will help you choose games that flow well and keep everyone engaged—without things getting too chaotic (or awkwardly quiet).
2. Make Sure Guests Can Use Their Microphones
Some of the virtual baby shower games below work best when guests can talk out loud—whether they’re answering questions, playing a guessing game, or just joining in on the fun. That means everyone will need access to a working microphone on their phone or computer.
When you send out the invitations, be sure to mention that some games will involve speaking, so guests can test their devices ahead of time. A quick heads-up can help avoid awkward tech issues during the party and make sure everyone feels comfortable joining in.
3. Choose Tech-Friendly Games
Not everyone’s a tech pro, and that’s totally okay. When picking your virtual baby shower games, stick with options that are simple to play and easy to explain. The goal is fun—not frustration.
If you think some guests might have trouble with the tech side of things, encourage them to join the shower with a friend or family member who’s also invited. That way, they can enjoy the party together (and get a little help if needed). It’s a great way to make sure everyone feels included, no matter their comfort level with technology.
4. Keep Track of Time
Hosting a baby shower online isn’t quite the same as being in person—especially when it comes to holding people’s attention. When guests are joining from home, there are way more distractions (kids, dishes, laundry… you get it).
Keep things simple by choosing games that are quick or really engaging. You don’t need to fill up the whole afternoon—just a few fun moments to keep everyone involved and focused on the reason you’re all there: celebrating the mom-to-be!
5. Materials and Printables
Most virtual baby shower games don’t need much—maybe just a pen and paper. But if a game does require something extra, make sure your guests know ahead of time.
If you’re using a printable (like bingo cards or trivia sheets), you can include it with the invite if you’re mailing them, or just email it to everyone before the party. That way, guests can print it out beforehand and won’t be scrambling last minute.
Fun Virtual Baby Shower Games
Virtual baby shower games are so much fun and can make a celebration just as special even if you aren’t able to meet in person. You don’t have to sacrifice a good time just because the party is online!
It’s worth noting that a lot of these games below can be adapted to both in person and virtual baby showers if you aren’t sure of the location of the party just yet.
Here are my top picks for enjoyable virtual baby shower games that everyone will love:
1. Baby Shower Bingo
We’ve got to kick things off with a classic—baby shower bingo! It’s easy to adapt for a virtual party and works great whether you’re playing over Zoom or another video chat.
There are two simple ways to play:
Printable Bingo Cards – Send each guest a unique bingo card ahead of time (you can include it with the invitation or email it to them to print). Then during the party, call out the baby items one by one while guests mark them off. Super easy, and a crowd favorite! Need a cute, ready-to-go set? Check out this printable baby shower bingo set I love. It’s adorable and makes setup a breeze.
Gift Bingo – This is my personal favorite! Give each guest a blank bingo card and have them fill in baby items they think the mom-to-be will receive. As she opens gifts, they’ll mark off anything that shows up on their card. This version can be a little tricky online, so be sure to explain the rules clearly—or better yet, send out a quick set of instructions beforehand.
Either way, bingo is a fun way to get everyone involved and adds a little friendly competition to the celebration!
2. Word Scramble
Word scramble is a classic baby shower game that works great for a virtual party. Guests just try to unscramble a list of baby-related words—and that’s it!
You can send out a printable ahead of time or show the list on screen and have everyone write down their answers.
There are several great sets on Etsy to make life easy or you could totally make your own!
3. Which Parent Game
This game requires you to ask the parents a series of questions prior to the baby shower. These questions include:
- Who will be the strictest parent?
- Who was the biggest baby at birth?
- Who will spoil the baby the most?
- Who will want another baby first?
Really you can ask the parent’s whatever you want so be creative! This printable from Etsy has a bunch of great questions to steal if you don’t want to come up with your own.
Guests can respond by raising their hand to vote for either Mom or Dad. Or to make it fun you can choose something to represent Mom and Dad each that they guests can hold up. Like maybe a hair bow for Mom and a baseball cap for Dad.
4. Emoji Game
Playing the emoji game is always a hit at a baby shower, so why can’t it be a favorite virtual baby shower game too? While you may have to adapt it to fit a Skype or Zoom meeting your guests are sure to be laughing.
This Emoji Pictionary from Etsy is a great starting point, and it comes with answers. To play you could go about these one of two ways:
- Send out the cards ahead of time or virtually as the baby shower starts and have each guest pull up the playing card on their computer.
- Make your own calling cards to hold up on the camera for each of the emoji sets and then reveal the answer after everyone has made a guess.
Personally I prefer the later, but I know it requires more work so just adapt it to whatever work best for your party.
5. Scavenger Hunt
This game requires your guests to get up and move, so prepare them! Send your virtual baby shower guests on a hunt for popular baby items in their own home. The first five who return to the screen are still in the game. Slowly eliminate one person each round until you have a winner.
Some ideas of items to include are:
- Blanket
- Onesie
- Baby Toy
- Bottle
- Lotion/Shampoo
The idea is that they are items associated with a baby that just about anyone could have in their house. Depending on the age and demographic of your guests you may have to select different items.
You could also use this cute baby shower scavenger hunt card and assign point values to all the different items they could find in their house. Set a timer and let everyone run wild!
Either way you play it is sure to be a blast.
6. Did You Hear That?
This is a virtual spin on the common baby shower game of “Don’t Say Baby!” Let guests know at the beginning of the shower 5 words that they are on the look out for during the chatter and other games. (You can make it so only you and the cohost(s) saying the word counts or anyone at the shower. It is up to you.)
These words need to be slightly obscure but also common enough to be talked about during the baby shower (like postpartum or hospital). As you say each of these words throughout the shower, guests will need to check off all 5.
Then once the last word is said, the first guest to shout “I heard that!” wins a fun prize!
7. Name That Baby Song
Here is another super simple virtual baby shower game that only requires your guests to have a blank piece of paper and a pen. Gather a list of songs that include the word ‘baby’ in it (or use a ready-made list like this one). Play a short section of the song over the computer (make sure everyone can hear well before you start) and have them write down the titles they hear.
The guest with the most correct answer wins! To make this game run smoothly try to have a playlist ready to go and even the time you want to start the song written down ahead of time.
8. Guess the Price
Modeled after the Price is Right, this virtual baby shower game is always a hit. Give a list of common baby items (and show them on the screen) and they have to guess how much each cost.
Because you bought these items ahead of time, you’ll know how much they cost and can make a key for yourself. The guest who is the closets without going over (Price is Right rules of course) is the winner of that point.
I think this editable Price is Right Game on Etsy is so cute and makes it easy for guests to organize their answers. It is editable so feel free to change the items depending on what you have available.
Then after the game you can put together a cute basket of all the items to gift to mom.edi
9. Baby Shower Jeopardy
Your guest will likely be familiar with how to play this game from the popular show, but with the fun baby shower Jeopardy twist!
All of the sections are done for you already aside from the questions all about mom. Make sure to fill those in before the party. It even has the theme song included! If the categories or questions already included aren’t what you are wanting the entire file is completely customizable. And it includes instructions on how all your guests can access it and play together.
This game can take some time, so it is best if it is the main or one of just a few games played at your virtual baby shower.
10. Family Feud
Another favorite game shower is Family Feud! This Answer Battle game is just like the show and has many positive reviews. This would be a great game for a baby shower with guests who may not be super familiar with one another.
11. Baby Trivia
Trivia is a simple game that everyone at your party is sure to love! Give guests a list of fun facts about babies and have them guess which ones are true and which are false. You could also easily read off one fact at a time over the computer and have guests raise their hands true or false.
Rather than collecting all the facts yourself, this ready made one is super cute!
12. Who Knows Mommy Best?
This is a super simple virtual baby shower game that tests your guest’s knowledge on how well they know mom. Just ask them to grab a pen and paper to write down their answer. Then ask guests a list of questions about mom (have her answer these for you ahead of time). Here are some ideas for questions:
- What is her favorite food?
- What did Mom want to be when she grew up as a child?
- When is her birthday?
- What is her pregnancy craving?
- What is her shoe size?
- How did she meet the father-to-be?
You can ask whatever questions you’d like! And this game can be as short or as long as you want depending on the number of questions.
That sums up my list of the top virtual baby shower games. I hope at least this article showed you that you can have a fun party even if you can’t meet up with loved ones in person.
And take it from a former Covid bride, sometime the virtual events are so much better and less stressful than the in-person festivities! If you want more details on how exactly to host a virtual baby shower check out this article here.
