Thinking of a name for your baby girl can definitely be a challenge! I had countless parents during my time as a nurse quiz me on the popularity of a name. They wanted to be sure their baby was the only one with the name they had chosen. Spoiler alert, in searching for the most uncommon name possible many actually arrived at the same trendy names. (Particularly in Utah!)
But what is so bad about a popular name? I mean if so many parents are choosing similar names for their babies there has to be a reason behind that right? When I look at popular name lists (the actually popular ones, not the trendy ones) I see names that are classic and timeless. And usually these are names that are passed down generation to generation. What is not to love about that?
The Social Security Administration Recently released their top 1000 names for each gender in 2022. While we don’t have time to go through all of them, I broke down the top 20 names for girls in 2022 plus their meanings and origins.
