The sun is out and now it’s time to get that baby outside to enjoy their first summer! I know when I was pregnant last summer, I dreamt about all the things I would do with my little guy this year. Now that it’s here I am so pumped to get the season started.
And what is better than shopping on Amazon and getting your items so fast? We can’t delay the summer fun!
In my online perusing, I’ve found so many cool baby summer essentials that you need for all those great summer activities with your baby! You are going to want to add all of these to your cart!

Top Summer Baby Essentials
Sun Hat
It is so important to protect your little one from the sun and its UV rays. A good sun hat with plenty of coverage is important to keep it off their heads and out of their eyes (if your child is like mine, they won’t keep sunglasses on no matter how hard you try). Make sure to get a sun hat with a string around the neck to keep your baby from pulling it off.
Swimsuit
How can we make this list without including the most important baby summer essential: a swimsuit! Amazon offers so many great swimsuit options for boys and girls that are just too dang cute! Make sure to buy one with a built-in UV guard to protect your baby, especially if they are under six months and sunscreen isn’t an option.
Sunscreen
If you spend time outside, you will want to protect your baby’s skin from the sun’s UV rays. Make sure you have plenty of baby sunscreen as well as a sunscreen stick for their face. It is so much easier to apply on a squirmy baby.
Not all sunscreens are created equal. Do your research, so you know what you are putting on your baby’s skin (as well as your own). We personally use Sun Bum Baby but there are several great options out there. Check out the Environmental Working Group for comparisons of all the different sunscreens out there on the market.
Please note that sunscreen isn’t recommended for babies under 6 months old. You should check with your primary care provider if you have any questions or concerns.
Insect Repellent
As the weather starts to warm up, the bugs come out too. Make sure you have plenty of baby safe insect repellent to keep your little one from any bites this summer.
Sunglasses
Now I am going to be honest, my son didn’t keep sunglasses on too often during his first summer but when he did this kind worked wonders! The strap behind kept them snug on his head but wasn’t too tight so that he was uncomfortable. Hopefully you will have better luck than me keeping them on because they sure do look cute!
Outdoor Blanket
There are so many fun summer activities you will want to enjoy with your baby and a great outdoor blanket ensures you always have a place to sit. I love this huge one from Amazon that is waterproof and folds up with its own handles for easy transport. Plus there are several cute color options!
Splash Pad
Make your backyard a water haven for your baby with his or her very own splash pad. These are great for babies that are starting to crawl around or even maybe walk on their own. If your baby is just learning to sit-up try a splash mat that they can sit and play in.
Bubble Machine
Bubbles are the best summer activity to keep your baby entertained, but no one wants to sit there and constantly dip the wand back in the bubbles. Get yourself a bubble machine and both you and your baby will be in bubble heaven!
Kiddie Pool

Going to a local pool is great and all, but I loved having a small kiddie pool all ready to go for those days when you just need to beat the heat. Just put a few inches of water and let your baby splash around their hearts content! So much better than packing up the diaper bag and anything else you need for an outing if you ask.

Pool Float
If you do venture out, the pool is even more fun with an awesome pool floatie! I love this one with a sun canopy for UV protection and the mesh portion is great for putting a few water toys for baby to play with.
Water Toys
Speaking of water toys, another summer essential is some great toys that baby can play with while getting wet. Bath toys are great to play with in the splash pad, pool, or even in a water sensory bin.
Portable Chair
Taking your baby places can be challenging without all the comforts you are used to at home. This portable highchair is great to put baby down when you are out at a picnic or BBQ and may let you even enjoy a bit of the food yourself. The best part about this chair is you can remove the little tray and it’s like baby has his or her own tiny camping chair. And it has its own carrying case and folds up for easy travel. Now tell me that isn’t the cutest thing!
