Now that you’ve got your Poshmark closet set up with a few listings and maybe made a few sales, you’ve probably wondered what’s next! How can you grow your reach and get more followers on this platform? Have you seen the tags floating around indicating a Poshmark seller is an Ambassador and wondered what that means? You probably also noticed these sellers have tens of thousands follower and make consistent, if not daily, sales. They got to this point by working hard to grow their closets and becoming a Poshmark Ambassador is a great place to start!
What is a Poshmark Ambassador?
A Poshmark ambassador is a shop owner who participates in the community and is a trusted online seller. By reaching this goal, other community members know you are an active member, follow the guidelines Poshmark has set, and provide great costumer service to your buyers. Overall it is a great achievement to reach to encourage others to buy from you!
What is the criteria?
To become a Poshmark ambassador, you must complete each of the following:
- Available Listings: Have at least 50 listings available in your closet
- Self-Share: Share your own items at least 5,000 times to the community
- Community Shares: Share at least 5,000 items from other Posher’s closets
- Listings Sold: Made at least 15 sales
- Share Items from 50 New Poshers
- Average Rating: Have an average rating of at least 4.5 stars
- Have an average ship time of less than 3 days
- Leave 1 Love Note: You have to make at least one purchase and leave a “love note”, or positive feedback, on another Posher’s closet
Overall you are an awesome seller, buyer, and community member! While it won’t happen overnight, ambassador status is absolutely achievable! Let’s work through each of these:
Available Listings
If you don’t yet have 50 listings in your closet, I would suggest working on this one first. Once you have at least 50 listings it will be much easier to complete other goals such as shares and sales.
The 50 listings is moving goal because you will need to continue adding listings as previous ones sell. Check out my post here on places where you can find items to sell to help increase your listings!
Self-Shares
Sharing your own closet 5,000 times sounds daunting but if you break it up you will be surprised how fast you can check this box off. Once you reach 50 items in your closet this will go quickly. A few tips on sharing:
- Share from your computer with a mouse. It is much fast than on the mobile app.
- Try to share when a party is happening. This allows you to share your listing to both your followers and the party at the same time.
- Share your closet at least once a day to be consistent. This will improve your shares, follower count, and hopefully sales as well!
Community Shares
While sharing your own closet, you can help your fellow Poshers by sharing their items to your followers. Follow the same strategy mentioned above sharing during parties to make it go faster. I like to go into a party or a previous party and start sharing some of the listings I see to others. Who knows, you may get a follower or a share back as a thank you!
Share Items From 50 New Poshers
This is probably the easiest item to achieve on the Poshmark Ambassador list and you can complete this in one sitting. A new seller is someone who just joined the community and has had less than 50 Poshers share a listing from their closet. So how do you find new Poshers? Follow these easy steps in the mobile app:Account
- Account
- Find People
- New People
- Choose either “Fresh Closets” or “Just Joined”, both are lists of new Poshers
- Click on a closet and share at least one item
You have to click on 50 individual closets that have items listed and share from each to finish this requirement.
Make 15 Sales
As you are completing the above requirements, you should start making some sales. The best ways to make sales are to increase your closet size and share your closet more often. Other tips include pricing your items competitively, send offers to likers, and accepting reasonable offers from buyers. Average Shipping Time Less Than 3 Days
Shipping quickly is a feature important to Poshmark. When I make sales, I try to package them up that night or the next day to get them out as quickly as possible. Sunday does not count as a shipping day, but every other day does. Once your package is received at the post office and scanned in you will receive a notification stating it is on its way to the buyer and Poshmark will consider you package shipped. Here are some tips to get your packages off to the buyer as quickly as possible:
- Stock up on shipping supplies and have them ready for when a sale comes in
- Use free USPS shipping supplies sent right to your door
- Organize your listings to make it easy to find when a sale is made
Once you make a sale, try to get it to the post office the next day or as soon as you can. My local post office has a drop off bin for prepaid packages you can use to skip the line, but I have had issues in the past with my packages not getting scanned for a day or two. If I have the time, I wait in line for my packages to be scanned in person. You choose what works best for you to get your listings shipped off to your buyer quickly.
Average Rating of At Least 4.5 Stars
This is the only criteria you don’t have much control over. When your packages are received by the buyer, they have three days to acknowledge the package was delivered and give you a rating. Some ways you can do to increase your chances of a five-star rating are:
- Ship quickly
- Photograph and be upfront about any flaws
- Take lots of pictures from different angles if possible so the buyer receives what they are expecting to receive.
- Package your items well to prevent damage when shipping
- Leave your buyers a thank you in their package
Overall if you are great to your costumers, they will reward you with a good rating!
Leave 1 Love Note
This is the only criteria that requires you to make a purchase on Poshmark. Shortly after joining, Poshmark should send you a coupon to use towards your first purchase. Use this coupon to get an even better deal on an awesome article of clothing and check this requirement off your list! What are the benefits of being an Ambassador?
Now that you’ve learned about all the requirements, what’s in it for you? When you reach ambassador status, you get a few extra perks:
- Get recommended to new Poshers
- Obtain access to special opportunities and programs
- Receive an exclusive newsletter with insider information and sneak peeks
No too shabby for completing a few goals you likely would have reached anyways!
Is it worth it?
The answer for this is not black and white. Do I think all these criteria are great goals to help guide you through building your side hustle? Absolutely! Do I think it will make a noticeable difference in your sales? The jury is still out on this one. To tell you the truth, after I reached ambassador status about three months into my Poshmark journey I don’t think its helped me make more sales. In order to reach this goal, I was already having to grow my business, list more items, and interact more in the community to get more sales. In my opinion my sales grew organically as my closet and following got bigger.
I do believe, however, that reaching ambassador status is social proof that I am a reliable seller. It lets my buyers know I ship in a timely manner, produce the items as promised, and can be relied on to provider goo costumer service. When starting a business that can be the in the buyer choose you over another seller.
One perk I have noticed in my closet is the increase in followers. As mentioned above, when you are first signing up for Poshmark you are given a list of “suggested closets” to follow to get you started. These are the ambassadors. Being a part of this list can get many more eyes on your closet than people stumbling upon your closet browsing through the app and choosing to follow you. More followers equal more people viewing your listings when shared, which can lead to greater sales.
Overall, while becoming a Poshmark ambassador may not dramatically increase your sales, it will set you apart from many other sales. So for that reason alone I think it is worth it.
Be patient. Ambassador status takes time to achieve and some of the criteria are easier than others to reach. If you keep listing, sharing, and working on your closet listing by listing you will get there.
Do you have any tricks you have used to become a Poshmark Ambassador fast? I’d love to hear about it.
