This bread is so easy to make and is so cozy for the fall. You will want to make this recipe over and over, especially when apples are in season!
What Apples to Use for Apple Bread?
If you’re wondering what type of apples to use for this bread—pretty much and type will work! Make sure you pick ones that are sweet and juicy, so your bread turns out soft and flavorful. Some of my favorites are Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, and Pink Lady. I’ve also heard golden delicious are great for baking, but make sure the apples you choose aren’t mushy. Check out your local farmers market for the best fresh apples!
Supplies You Will Need
Apple bread is easy to whip up with just a few things you likely already have in your kitchen:
Preferred baking pan
- (2) Regular loaf pan
- (4) Small loaf pans, or
- (1) Muffin pan for 24 muffins
Whisk
Spatula (these ones with the silicon ends are the best!)
Baking Times
I like to bake my sweet breads on a lower temperature for a longer amount of time. I’ve found that this leads to a more even bake and the bread stays moist all throughout.
- For regular size loaf pans — cook for 55-65 minutes
- For smaller loaf pans — cook for 35-45 minutes
- For regular size muffins — cook for 25-30 minutes
Cook times will vary slightly based on your altitude and type of oven.
How Long Will Apple Bread Last?
This apple bread keeps well for up to four days at room temperature in a sealed, airtight container. I will often wrap mine in foil and store in the fridge for a week, or in the freezer for up to two months.
Tips and Tricks
- Grease and lightly flour your loaf pans for the best results. You can even use parchment paper in the bottom to prevent sticking
- Do NOT over mix the batter. Mix just until everything is combined
- Slice with a serrated knife to prevent crumbling
- If the top of your bread sinks in at the middle it likely means your apples were too moist. Try patting down lightly with a paper towels or putting through a strainer before adding shredded apples to your mix
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream!
